An Update on Christ United, Myrtle Beach

An article entitled “A Sad Story of Disaffiliation’ was part of an email that was recently sent to our congregation. The article inaccurately portrayed the outcome of the church’s disaffiliation, as it did not include the most important result of the church’s decision.

Please read the comments that we received from Rev. Jeff Dunn. Rev. Dunn is the church’s long-time lead pastor. He recently conveyed to us his thoughts about his church’s 2019 disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church and its impact on his church.

“I just read the piece from Buncombe Street. My response is that the story of Christ United is far from sad, it is amazing and wonderful, and we have absolutely no regrets or second thoughts about disaffiliation. We are a part of something so much greater than we could have ever imagined, and we are continually thanking God for where he has taken us.” Rev. Jeff Dunn

God had a plan for Christ United, just as he has a plan for us.  We don’t believe it is His will that we rest on the things that Buncombe Street has accomplished in the past. He calls us to a better future by our letting go of the things of the past that now impede us in our efforts to grow His earthly Kingdom.

Trusting in God when facing change worked for Christ United. Trusting in God worked for the Israelites when they followed Moses out of Egypt. Trusting in God will also work for us if we are brave enough as a congregation to embrace a different future by leaving the United Methodist Church.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
